What to do When The Siren Sounds
This information is provided for you to serve as a guide in the event the City's Storm siren sounds. If you have any questions concerning the siren, please contact the Jackson City Emergency Operations Center at 573-243-1010
The storm siren in our city is provided as a part of a warning for the possibility of a tornado in our area. Citizens should not use the siren for their sole resource to warn then about impending weather. Once the siren sounds, it will be their responsibility to seek shelter and to tune into local radio, tv or weather radios for further instructions. Please do not call the police dispatcher and ask why the siren went off. Remember, the siren is only designed for warning persons who are outdoors and is not meant to be heard inside where you should use a weather alert radio.
SIREN TESTING:
The siren will be sounded at noon, on the first Monday of every month unless of impending severe weather in the area.
The sirens will be tested by sending a short tone to determine if the sirens are functioning property.
START OF SEVERE WEATHER SEASON:
The siren will be sounded on the first day of the second week of march to coincide with the state's severe weather exercise. Again, we will use the three soundings..
